About The Kuwentista Movement
The Kuwentista Movement brings together business and government leaders, educators, and advocates who seek to rekindle and sustain the passion for storytelling and revisit the enduring power of stories to inspire understanding, preserve culture, and drive meaningful change. Derived from the Filipino word kuwento (story) and the suffix -ista, a kuwentista is literally a storyteller — someone who tells, shares, creates, or champions stories.
For more than two decades, its co-lead convener, award-winning Filipino storyteller Rey S. Bufi, has advanced storytelling as a catalyst for learning, connection, and social transformation. Together with thousands of volunteers, he has brought the art and practice of storytelling to communities across the Philippines, especially in remote areas — training teachers, community leaders, and professionals, and inspiring them to use stories as instruments of education, empowerment, and nation-building.
At the heart of the movement is a simple but powerful invitation: Discover the Storyteller in You, and harness the power of stories to connect, inspire, and create positive change in your community and beyond.
The Goal
By 2030, the Kuwentista Movement envisions conducting 126 trainings nationwide, empowering 14,400 direct beneficiaries, and creating a ripple effect that will positively impact an estimated 576,000 indirect beneficiaries.
